It had been some time now ever since my dear father-in-law had a fall and hurt his head . The interesting part is he could not remember where or how he fell. He even denied he had a fall!! However, the deep gash on his forehead had proved otherwise. We gathered that he might had knocked his head on the wall near the toilet. Proof of some blood stains on the wall and on the floor from his bed leading to the toilet. He was a very lucky man..not experiencing any pain..even with this nasty fall which required some stitches near his eyes on his forehead. We were puzzled with this and even more shocked to be told by the doctors that he was actually blinded in one eye. His nerve around the eyes are not working.. This answered the question of why he does not feel any pain on the injured part of his head. This is not because of his fall but his one eye is of no use quite a while ago!!
Recalling back, those days, he used to wash his eyes with chrysanthemum water. When asked he would say it would keep his eyesight better. Never did he ever said anything about not being able to see..He did not know it too, that all this while he is just a 'one eye jack'.
He was already experiencing poor memories prior to his fall. It is common amongst seniors/elderly as age is catching up. Nevertheless, this fall aggreviate his senile condition and he is having Alzheimer's disease.
Alzheimer's disease.. Generally, the symptoms is when memory loss becomes apparent. If Alzheimer's is suspected as the cause, the physician or healthcare specialist will confirm the diagnosis with behavioral assessment. Anyway,we do not need any specialist to tell us this. Why?? Because he had been very forgetful..so forgetful that when my youngest son asked him about his wife's name. He gave a us a shocking unheard name of someone.. Even when we told him what the actual correct name of his wife is,he still maintained he is right. Where on earth is this wife of his, whose name sounded so alien to us?? He could not even remember his own one and only wife of over the few decades of married lives together?? Think how deadly is this so called Alzheimer's disease can do to your mind!!
