Ever since my father-in-law fell and hurt his head and had an operation some time ago, his memory is failing him gradually. Most of the time, he would just sit on his rocking chair...not even watching any tv shows let alone reading any newspaper like he did before. Only occasionally he would get up to go to the toilet or the kitchen. Otherwise, he would just retire to his room to rest.
Only until recently, he is still able to make his favorite 'milo' drinks himself...but he would almost always forget that he already had his drink minutes ago. There was a day he ended up making 8 cups of milo (from morning till night). Some of which he would just forget to drink and leave the drinks on the table.
It is not only wastage that is the concern but also the fear of him eventually being diabetic with all those sweetness contents he had consumed.
The recent episode of him having some problems with his health gets everyone in my family on the alert...except him of course. Now and then, my youngest son would test his memory power by asking him some questions. Questions like "where are you staying", "whats your name?" " How old are you?".
Sometimes, you couldn't help laughing... yesterday he posed him some more question... "Are you still married?" "Do you have a wife?" and "Whats your wife's name?"
Although such questions sounded simple yet it really could somehow know whether this old grandpa's brain is still working or not!
